Home Garden Decor
Today’s garden decor is more of an extension of your living space. Versatile outdoor spaces can be used for dining and lounging with family members, as well as entertaining guests. Decorating your garden for these functions gives you a fabulous alternative to the traditional dinner party! With the wonderful new garden decor trend of creating an outdoor kitchen and dining/living area you are expanding your square footage and increasing your home value. According to “Smart Money” magazine, consumers who spend 5 percent of the value of their home on landscaping can expect to add 15 percent or more to its value. Entertaining trends are following suit with the garden decor trends. Themed garden parties and of course the traditional American Barbeque is all the rage. It’s very easy and affordable to double your living space.
Add a few comfortable weatherproof chairs, an unused table, paint a lasting rug to your patio and you are on your way to doubling your living space or be inventive…Create a grass couch, table and loveseat, using a wood structure covered in sod. Be creative in your garden decor. Center your living/dinning space close to your “kitchen” area. In 2004 alone 14.5 million grills were sold, so that along with a small refrigerator, a prep/serving table and you have just achieved an inexpensive outdoor kitchen. You can always build a more defined structure encompassing built in appliances. Use your imagination and remember your garden decor is a refection of you and your family.
Adding a canopy or fire pit will make a wonderful addition to the completion of your garden decor. Create different rooms outside by separating the areas by plants, screens, and trellises. Place a fire pit in one corner away from all flammables, of course and place some place a few chairs around, to create a wonderful area to tell ghost stories and roast marshmallows. Use a canopy in another area and place an outdoor bed or picnic table under it and this will create a place to lounge in a shaded area and enjoy your garden. Trends are gearing towards mimicking your home outside. So duplicating your living spaces outside is an important aspect to your garden decor.
Adding life to your garden decor is also an essential part. There are many different ways to accomplish this. Make it a project for your whole family. Incorporate a vegetable and herb garden, pond or Butterfly garden to your garden decor. Nothing improves your garden more than the use of plant life, trees, native plants, perennials or annuals. Just make sure that they will survive your climate. Ask your local gardening store for assistance with your selection.
Ensure that your garden decor includes fragrant plants to enhance your outdoor experience. A Butterfly Garden is a perfect avenue to take. Not just beautiful plants to view, but an outdoor lab for your children to explore. Chose a sunny spot and include plants such as Lantana, zinnia, coneflower, butterfly bush and abelia. Butterflies especially love clusters of small tubular flowers. Some species enjoy fennel, parsley, dill, and rue which is a wonderful gateway to incorporate an herb garden. Adding a few of the fragrant plants will assist in drawing in birds bringing in even more life and color to your garden. Interjecting a birdhouse and a water source into your garden decor will ensure that the birds will come back and will provide hours of entertainment.
Finding Ways to Finance Your Home Improvement Project…there’s Help Out There
Finding Ways To Finance Your Home Improvement Project…There’s Help Out There!
I have been in the home improvement business for almost a quarter of a century and I still get very excited about beginning a new project. I always look forward to working with the new homeowner(s) and getting acquainted with all the members of the family and even the next door neighbors and friends. In my opinion it’s a time of celebration and anticipation.
However, there are other times when I have received a distress call from homeowners who were experiencing an unexpected crisis. Out of the blue it seemed, something terrible had happen and they were unprepared emotionally and financially to deal with it. Accidents and unforeseen occurrences do happen to us all, but when it involves a major expense it can prove to be truly alarming.
There are some contractors that work for the rich and famous and financing their home improvement project is not an issue. But practically all my clients and customers are working class people who are not famous and are far from being rich. And yet it brings me joy to no end to please them in every way I can.
I personally respect the average American who works hard to earn a decent living and I try to reflect that in my work and commitment to providing a quality service that they can appreciate. I want to help out as much as possible…especially in times of disaster. Although it is true we must make a living, therefore, we must charge for our services; but we always manage to give something for free as a goodwill token—always. And that’s just the way we do business, but we do want our customers/clients to know that there are sources available to assist you financially when unexpected emergencies do happen.
We live in the region of the country where there are many perils: hurricanes, tornadoes, windstorms, floods, hail damage, just to name a few and these menacing threats can turn into a major disaster with a blink of an eye. Without notice your home can be severely damaged or even completely destroyed. And in most cases home insurance will cover most of the damage-if not all. But in other cases homeowners are left to deal with their lost all alone.
However, all is not necessarily lost and assistance can be just a phone call away. There are banks that are dedicated to helping homeowners secure financing to repair/rebuild their home whether it’s an emergency or not. Banks that have loan officials that are dedicated to providing homeowners with the help they need. Savings and loan companies, finance companies, just to name a few that will lend you money when you need it the most.
All you have to do is tap into this vast pool of financial help and talk it over with a qualified representative and stop your worrying. In most cases help is readily available and they are more than willing to assist you in every way they can. It’s their business!
Remember, family members can also prove to be a safe vessel for help, as well as neighborhood credit unions and other reputable lending services. But I caution you to stay away from high interest loan shops that can prove to be a deep dark pit. And even legitimate loan companies that charge ridiculously high interest rates are to be avoided at all cost. Never, never, never sign your property away just to get some kind of financial assistance in an emergency situation. Always contact the better business bureau in your area and you should seek the services of an attorney. If you can’t afford an attorney contact legal aid or an attorney that will provide services pro bono.
Homeowners have so many options when it comes to finding ways to finance their home improvement/rebuild projects. And I would like to mention that there are many government programs that are designed to help homeowners to secure grants and low interest loans. All you have to do is apply…you have nothing to lose. Good luck and I wish you well. Learn More
Organic Gardening Tips for Flowers and Herbs
The popularity of organic food and gardening has certainly increased over the last few years. Not only does it give you a sense of well being but people love the beauty of wonderful colored flowers and the taste of vegetables they helped create. Organic gardening tips on how to successfully start and care for an organic garden are becoming easier to find as this type of gardening continues to become more popular. Along with being relaxing, it is a very interesting hobby. Anyone can organically produce wonderful fruits, herbs and vegetables and know that they are healthy to eat and pesticide, herbicide and chemical free. There will always be garden pests but instead of using chemicals to deal with this problem, there are many organic gardening tips to get rid of them, similar to the way gardeners did many years ago before the use of pesticides and herbicides.
A good homemade pest deterrent to use in organic gardening is:
In a jar, combine 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid and 1 cup vegetable oil. Shake vigorously. In an empty spray bottle, combine 2 teaspoons of this mixture and 1 cup water. Use at ten-day intervals (or more often if needed) to rid plants of whiteflies, mites, aphids, scales, and other pests.
Following a few organic gardening tips, you will produce fruits, vegetables and herbs that are healthy, taste wonderful, are less expensive than buying produce at the grocery store and give you the peace of mind knowing exactly how they were grown and what was used on them. Aphids are annoying little insects that often cause a lot of damage in your garden. If you plant marigolds near your vegetable garden, the aphids will quit bothering your plants. If you already have an aphid problem, spray the infected plants with diluted soapy water and then spray them again with clear water. Organic gardening tips you should try are; instead of buying compost for your garden, which could contain chemicals, make your own while you cut down on garbage at the same time. Using your garden and kitchen waste is an excellent and very easy way to make your own compost. In your compost pile use peelings from carrots, potatoes and other vegetables, dead weeds, coffee grounds, egg shells and even the pruning from roses and other plants. The different textures help break down the compost quickly. Compost improves the soil texture, structure and aeration while enriching the soil, which stimulates root development. When choosing plants for your organic garden, make sure you choose ones that are well adapted for your area.
Here are a couple of great organic gardening tips that not only help keep your garden free of weeds but also keep the soil from drying out too quickly. Grass clippings and pine needles mixed or old newspapers make very good mulch, which keeps your garden weed free and the soil moist. Organic gardening tips help you grow healthy organic fruits and vegetable that you, your family and friends will love.
Most important of all, is to enjoy your organic garden and the fruits of your labor. Not only will you have the satisfaction of growing vegetables and herbs organically but you it will also inspire you in your culinary tasks.
Here’s to a great organic garden and fabulous, healthy meals.

How-to Find and Deal With Contractors for Home Improvements
With home values in America decreasing, you may want to think about investing in some home improvements. You may have had some things that you always wanted to fix, but weren’t sure how long you were going to be in your home. Now that you may be staying in your home a little longer than you originally thought, it’s a perfect time to make some improvements so you can enjoy it more.
You may also want to help sell your home faster by adding some additional value. Heating, air conditioning, windows, kitchen and roofing tend to be the areas typically looked at first. While making the decision about what home improvements to make can sometimes be difficult, finding and dealing with a contractor to fix your home may be equally stressful.
Many people have heard of horror stories regarding dealing with unprofessional contractors or scam artists. Doing home improvements yourself can save money, but if you’re not really a handy man or woman, don’t have much time or just think you could benefit from professional home improvement services it’s probably worth a shot to look into.
There are websites that specialize in connecting those in need of home improvements with licensed, insured and reputable contractors that can prove to be very useful. One of them I read about started when the current owner’s wife had an unfortunate incident with a roofing contractor that left her out of over a thousand dollars after she left a deposit and never heard from him again. Some will even get you three free estimates on the home improvement that you are interested in from prescreened professionals.
Some tips for dealing with contractors; ask them to give you detailed proposals with costs, make sure you communicate well with them, try to show them what you want with photos or illustrations in addition to talking with them about it, expect messes and delays depending upon conditions.

Indoor gardens become more popular on a regular basis so the tools for building them are improved upon constantly. There are many different systems that you can choose.
